Getting Testnet Tokens

To test AstralBeam, you'll need testnet tokens on both Ethereum Sepolia and Casper Testnet. This guide provides links to faucets and instructions for obtaining test tokens.

Overview

Testnet tokens have no real value and are only for testing. You'll need:

1. Native tokens for gas fees (Sepolia ETH, Testnet CSPR)
2. Bridgeable tokens to test the bridge (USDC, WETH, LINK)

Native Tokens (For Gas Fees)

Sepolia ETH

Required for paying gas fees on Ethereum Sepolia.

Recommended: The PoW mining faucet provides the largest amount without strict limits.

How to Get Sepolia ETH

1. Go to sepolia-faucet.pk910.de
2. Enter your Ethereum address
3. Start the mining session
4. Wait for sufficient mining time
5. Claim your Sepolia ETH

Testnet CSPR

Required for paying gas fees on Casper Testnet.

How to Get Testnet CSPR

1. Go to testnet.cspr.live/tools/faucet
2. Connect your Casper Wallet
3. Click "Request Tokens"
4. Wait for the transaction to complete
5. Your balance will update automatically

Bridgeable Tokens

USDC (USD Coin)

Circle's official USDC on Sepolia.

How to Get USDC

1. Go to faucet.circle.com
2. Connect your wallet
3. Select "Ethereum Sepolia" network
4. Select "USDC" token
5. Enter your address
6. Click "Get Tokens"

WETH (Wrapped ETH)

There's no direct faucet for WETH, but you can wrap Sepolia ETH:

How to Get WETH

1. Go to Uniswap
2. Connect MetaMask on Sepolia
3. Swap ETH for WETH
4. Keep some ETH for gas fees!

How to Get LINK

1. Go to faucets.chain.link
2. Connect your wallet
3. Select "Ethereum Sepolia"
4. Complete the verification (if required)
5. Click "Send request"

Adding Tokens to MetaMask

After obtaining tokens, you may need to add them to MetaMask to see balances:

Method 1: Import Token

1. Open MetaMask
2. Click "Import tokens"
3. Enter the token contract address
4. Token symbol and decimals will auto-populate
5. Click "Add Custom Token"

Method 2: Token Detection

MetaMask may automatically detect tokens. If not:

1. Go to Settings > Security & Privacy
2. Enable "Autodetect tokens"

Tips for Getting Faucet Tokens

1. Daily limits: Most faucets have rate limits. Plan ahead.
2. Multiple faucets: Use different faucets to accumulate tokens faster.
3. Save tokens: Once bridged, you can bridge back instead of getting new tokens.
4. Network congestion: Faucet transactions may be slow during high network usage.
5. Verification: Some faucets require Twitter/GitHub verification.

Troubleshooting

Faucet Not Working

• Check if faucet has rate limits (wait and try again)
• Verify you're on the correct network
• Try a different faucet
• Check faucet's social media for status updates

Tokens Not Appearing

• Wait a few minutes for transaction confirmation
• Add token manually to MetaMask using contract address
• Check transaction on Etherscan
• Ensure you're on Sepolia network

Insufficient Balance Errors

• Native tokens (ETH/CSPR) are needed for gas
• Don't swap all your ETH - keep some for gas
• Gas prices vary - you may need more during congestion
